SEC has the following three main projects which are important for church growth in Somalia.

1. Church planting

SEC prioritizes serving God and guiding believers to grow in their faith as a community of believers. We have several house churches in different locations inside Somalia, where believers meet secretly in small groups. We facilitate these small gathering meetings for worship and administration of sacraments.

In addition, as a mission-minded church, our primary focus is to reach the Somali nation and share the Gospel, with our brothers and sisters who are in darkness, through holistic mission. SEC has local and trained missionaries deployed in different areas to preach the Gospel and plant house churches.

2. Education

We believe in equipping church leaders through education. We send those who have the call, energy and time to go to theological education before giving them leadership positions and ministry in our church. For this reason, SEC has become the only organized Somali church with the highest number of theologically trained leaders. Further, we provide short term discipleship and leadership training for those who have a call to serve but have no chance to attend formal education.

In addition, we send our young people to schools, colleges and universities for vocational training, to empower and strengthen our community of believers in the country.

3. Diakonia

Diakonia in “its practical implication in the sense that diakonia is a call to action, as a response to challenges of human suffering, injustice and care for creation” (LWF, 2009:8).

The mission of the church to the world is to go out and serve the whole person. In our holistic view of the mission, we believe that serving the spiritual and physical aspects of the person is a key part of the local church’s activity.

Somalia is one of the poorest countries in the world. Somalia has been severely affected by the civil war that led to the collapse of the central government in 1991. For the last three decades there has been no functional central government in Somalia and the Somali people have been severely affected by conflicts, drought, famines and instability.

With instability and recurring droughts in the entire Somali region of the Horn of Africa, there is no doubt that there is an ever-increasing need for humanitarian assistance to help those who are in need. As an expression of God’s love, SEC with its partners is committed to responding to the humanitarian crisis that are affecting Somali Christians and other Somalis in the Horn of Africa, by raising funds and developing proposals for development and emergency relief projects through our diakonia wing organization in Somalia.
